Reflection of MPU Personal Development

Through this MPU program, I know truly understand myself better. In the past, I have n idea what to be when I finish study. After all these programs, I finally know which path to go and how to pursue my dream. I have a clearer aim and goals after this program. This program is very useful to my study journey and my life.

Now I know my strength and weakness. I will try to overcome my weakness and strengthen my strength. I will also try to achieve all my goals that have been set. Furthermore, I learned that knowing yourself better is a benefit to us. I know that what is right and what is wrong to do. I will become a better person in life and study after this program.

Moreover, I make many new friends through this program. The group work project was very useful because teamwork had make us a better team and built up friendship. I truly apipreciate the friends that I have made through this program. I even speak publicly for the first time because I'm afraid of public speaking. Through this program, I also tried out presentation and many group works that I had never tried before.

The program also let us know many apps that is very useful to our study, such as Poplet, Powtoon, Show Me and more. All these app can make notes and share notes with each other. Some apps can even draw mind map and make interesting videos. I'm truly impressed with all these apps. I will make use of all these apps in my studies. I truly believe that by using all these apps, I can study more effectively and learn more things with a easier way.

Last but not least, I appreciate that I have attended this program so that I can understand myself more and develop personal skills. I will be a more useful person after this program.

Reflection

Reflection is :-
a. Making sense of experience
b. Standing back
c. Repetition
d. Deeper honesty
e. Weighing up
f. Clarity
g. Understanding
h. Making judgments

Reflection using the DIEP method :
D-Describe
~Describe objectively what happened
~Give details of what happened
~What did I do, read, see, hear

I-Inteprate
~Interpret the events
~Explain your learning ; new insights, connections with other learning, your feelings, hypotheses, conclusions.
~What was the reason I did this activity ?
~What might it mean ?

E-Evaluate
~Evaluate what you learned
~Make judgments based on observations you have made
~How was this useful

P-Plan
~Plan how this learning will be applied
~Comment on relevance to course, program, future profession, life
~How might this learning apply in my future

Why should we reflect ?
It's not sufficient simply to have an experience in order to learn. Without reflecting upon this experience, it may quickly be forgotten, or its learning potential lost. It is from the feeling and thoughts from this reflection that generalization or concepts can be generated. It is these concepts allow new situations to be tackled effectively

How to reflect ?
1. Description (What happened)
2. Feelings (What were you thinking&feeling)
3. Evaluation (What was good&bad)
4. Analysis (What sense can you make the situation)
5. Analysis  (What else could you have done )
6. Action Plan (If it arose again what would you do)

I learned many things in my life through mistakes and experiences. Experience make me stronger, better and wiser.

One of my experience is I get bad results in my Form 1 Mid-Year examination. I get 7As in my UPSR results. I'm quite confidence and thought that I can score without studying hard like primary school. Due to the confidence and not prepare for the exam, I get results that I never get before in my primary school. I was shocked with the bad results and I'm afraid to tell my parents that have high expectations on me. At last, I told my parents about my results, they were truly unhappy and dissapointed of my bad results. I get scolding from my parents because I didn't put in effort for the examination.  I was very upset of my results too. My mum came to cheer me up by telling me not to give up and do my best next time. After this incident, I truly know that I need to work hard to be success. I also understand that it's not easy to get good results.

I have learned that our hard work will be paid off if we put in full effort. I understand that nothing is impossible to achieve. This understanding could be important to me as a learner because o need more experience to let me improve and become a better person in life.

Looking back, I now think that I have gained a life lesson through this incident and make myself a better person.
Another unforgettable memory is I went to a class trip with all my high school classmates after SPM. We enjoyed ourselves very much. On the first day, we went to Pulau Langkawi for 2 days and 1 nights. We went island hopping and explored the sea. Our relationship went closer and we enjoyed ourselves very much. At Pulau Langkawi, when we went for banana boat and some sea sports, I hurt myself. My ears was bleeding and it was really painful when it touched the sea water. The St. John members of my class helped me to clean my wounds. I truly felt that friendship is so important. Without their help I my ears may be infected and get worse.

We also went to Penang and explored all the good food. We also went to visit the 3D museums and mural art along Penang street. We enjoyed ourselves very much and the trip was filled with laughter. We went to the Escape Park too. It was very challenging and I did a lot activities that I had never try before.

I understand that friendship last forever and it will never ends. For me, the most meaningful experience was the help of my classmates that clean my wounds. Previously, I thought I no need anybody's help to survive. This reveals that the help of friends is very important.

Having experienced, I now feel that the presence of friendship is important in our life. Furthermore, I cherish all the moments with all my friends. I have significantly improved my knowledge of the importance of friends. This knowledge will be essential to me as a learner because I'm young and need more experience in life to learn from it. Because I'm not yet understand about the importance of friends, I will now need to learn to appreciate them. As a next step, I need to appreciate my friends more.

Learning Styles

VAK Learning Styles Explanation

The VAK learning styles model suggests that most people can be divided into one of three preferred styles of learning. These three styles are as follows, (and there is no right or wrong learning style):

  •  Someone with a Visual learning style has a preference for seen or observed things, including pictures, diagrams, demonstrations, displays, handouts, films, flip-chart, etc. These people will use phrases such as ‘show me’, ‘let’s have a look at that’ and will be best able to perform a new task after reading the instructions or watching someone else do it first. These are the people who will work from lists and written directions and instructions.

  •  Someone with an Auditory learning style has a preference for the transfer of information through listening: to the spoken word, of self or others, of sounds and noises. These people will use phrases such as ‘tell me’, ‘let’s talk it over’ and will be best able to perform a new task after listening to instructions from an expert. These are the people who are happy being given spoken instructions over the telephone, and can remember all the words to songs that they hear!

  •  Someone with a Kinaesthetic learning style has a preference for physical experience - touching, feeling, holding, doing, practical hands-on experiences. These people will use phrases such as ‘let me try’, ‘how do you feel?’ and will be best able to perform a new task by going ahead and trying it out, learning as they go. These are the people who like to experiment, hands-on, and never look at the instructions first

    Visual Learners

If you have a strong preference for Visual (V) learning, you should use some or all of the following:

INTAKE [To take in the information, use] underlining
    different colors
    highlighters

    symbols
    flow charts, charts, graphs
    pictures, videos, posters slides
different spatial arrangements on the page
    white space
    textbooks with diagrams, pictures
lecturers who use gestures and picturesque language

    SWOT [Study without tears]
    To make a learnable package
Convert your lecture 'notes' into a learnable package by reducing them (3: 1). into page pictures.
Use all techniques above to do this
Reconstruct the images in different ways - try different spatial arrangements
    Redraw your pages from memory
Replace words with symbols or initials.
    Look at your pages

OUTPUT [To perform well in the examination]
    Recall the 'pictures' of pages
Draw - use diagrams where appropriate
Write exam answers Practice turning your visuals back into words You are holistic rather than reductionist in your approach.

    You want the whole picture.
Visual learners do not like handouts, words, lectures, textbooks or assessment that hinge on word usage, syntax and grammar.

     Aural Learners

A If you have a strong preference for learning by Aural methods (A = hearing) you should use some or all of the following:
    INTAKE
    [To take in the information]
    attend lectures

    attend tutorials
    discuss topics with other students
    discuss topics with your lecturers
explain new ideas to other people
use a tape recorder remember the interesting examples, stories, jokes.. describe the overheads, pictures and other visuals to somebody who was not there
leave spaces in your lecture notes for later recall and 'filling'

    SWOT [Study without tears]
    To make a learnable package
Convert your lecture notes into a 'learnable package by reducing them (3:1) expand your notes by talking with others and collecting notes from the textbook.
Put your summarized notes onto tapes and listen to them.
Ask others to 'hear' your understanding of a topic.
    Read your summarized notes aloud.
Explain your notes to another 'aural' person.

OUTPUT [To perform well in the examination] Talk with the examiner
Listen to your voices and write them down Spend time in quiet places recalling the ideas Practice writing answers to old exam questions Speak your answers

You prefer to have all of this page explained to you.
The written words are not as valuable as those you hear. You will probably go and tell somebody about this.

    Kinesthetic Learners

K If you have a strong preference for Kinesthetics (doing) learning you should use some or all of the following:
    INTAKE
[To take in the information, use]
all your senses - sight, touch, taste, smell, hearing . .

laboratories, field trips , field tours
examples of principles , lecturers who give real-life examples applications, hands-on approaches (computing)
    trial and error
collections of rock types, plants, shells, grasses..
    exhibits, samples, photographs..
    recipes--solutions to problems
    previous exam papers

    SWOT [Study without tears]
    To make a learnable package
Convert your lecture notes into a learnable package by reducing them (3:1) Your lecture notes may be poor because the topics were not 'concrete' or 'relevant'.
You will remember the 'real' things that happened
Put plenty of examples into your summary. Use case studies and applications to help with principles and abstract concepts
Talk about your notes with another 'K' person
Use pictures, photographs which illustrate an idea
Go back to the laboratory or your lab manual
    Recall the experiments, field trip

OUTPUT [To perform well in the examination]
    Write practice answers, paragraphs
Role play the exam situation in your own room
You want to experience the exam so that you can understand it.
The ideas on this page are only valuable if they sound practical, real and relevant to you.

You need to do things to understand.

I'm a Kinesthetic Learner. I like making notes using my own handwriting. I prefer short notes. Whenever there is a important information, I will highlight it so that I will pay more attention on them, I also like to do more exercises such as past year and reference books to improve my skills. I will also watch videos to let me know more about the syllabus.

These are my friends that have different learning style :

    1. Sher Mayn Lim group 6

    Visual Learner (A type)
    - Memorizing and understanding notes
    -highlighting notes
    -doing practice on exercise book
-jot down important points that the lecturer teach
-learn from the experience of daily life
-watching how others do things and pick up the skill

    2. Stephanie Priscilla WIlliam group 2
    Auditory learner (B type)
-Listening and understanding from people when they teach
-Looking at what they do and try to follow it

    3. Hong kah min Group 2
    Visual leaner( A type)
-normally highlight text while making notes simultaneously
    - read a few times a week the write down what I remember
    - do past years papers

Personality Test

ISFJs generally have the following traits:

  • Large, rich inner store of information which they gather about people
  • Highly observant and aware of people's feelings and reactions
  • Excellent memory for details which are important to them
  • Very in-tune with their surroundings - excellent sense of space and function
  • Can be depended on to follow things through to completion
  • Will work long and hard to see that jobs get done
  • Stable, practical, down-to-earth - they dislike working with theory and abstract thought
  • Dislike doing things which don't make sense to them
  • Value security, tradition, and peaceful living
  • Service-oriented: focused on what people need and want
  • Kind and considerate
  • Likely to put others' needs above their own
  • Learn best with hands-on training
  • Enjoy creating structure and order
  • Take their responsibilities seriously
  • Extremely uncomfortable with conflict and confrontation

ISFJs have two basic traits which help define their best career direction: 1) they are extremely interested and in-tune with how other people are feeling, and 2) they enjoy creating structure and order, and are extremely good at it. Ideally, the ISFJ will choose a career in which they can use their exceptional people-observation skills to determine what people want or need, and then use their excellent organizational abilities to create a structured plan or environment for achieving what people want. Their excellent sense of space and function combined with their awareness of aesthetic quality also gives them quite special abilities in the more practical artistic endeavors, such as interior decorating and clothes design.

The following list of professions is built on our impressions of careers which would be especially suitable for an ISFJ. It is meant to be a starting place, rather than an exhaustive list. There are no guarantees that any or all of the careers listed here would be appropriate for you, or that your best career match is among those listed.

Possible Career Paths for the ISFJ:

   Interior Decorators
   Designers
   Nurses
   Administrators and Managers
   Administrative Assistants
Child Care / Early Childhood Development
   Social Work / Counselors
   Paralegals
   Clergy / Religious Workers
   Office Managers
   Shopkeepers
   Bookkeepers
   Home Economics

I'm a ISFJ. I think it's quite accurate but some part is not very accurate. I'm not really kind and considerate, but I'm quite inconsiderate and not tolerant. I don't like working in groups as usual and prefer working alone. This is quite accurate.

We learned Mathematics since we first step into kindergarten. We use mathematics in our daily life. It's a lifelong learning. The subjects mathematics can show the quality of taylor graduate capabilities. Through mathematics, we don't only learn how to solve the questions but also teaching others how to solve a problem. This will enhance our communication skills. When we solve, we will have thinking and problem solving skills. One of the TGC is digital literacy. We use calculator in solving our mathematics question, sometimes even smartphones. When we help others, we will also develop interpersonal skills. When we solve mathematics question ourselves, we will develop intrapersonal skills.

This shows that mathematics have the Taylors Graduate Capabilities (TGC).
